1. Please check meet entries for Sizzle, Solstice and NJ LC Cup. Info for the Bayonne Peninsula meet has just been put up and we need to know by Thursday if you are going. We still do not have info for the OWA Cup and meet opportunities are running out so lets make sure you get into this meet if you are not scheduled to swim Friday at Sizzle.

2. There are several athletes entered in two meets the same weekend - Sizzle and Solstice. We did this intentionally so that in case we got closed out of a meet we did not lost both possibilities to race.  News 1/7

1. Team members - it is crucial that swim team members use locks in the locker rooms, leave their valuables at home, check their valuables at the front desk or bring their bags on deck with them during practice. Over the past few months we have had a rash of thefts in the youth locker rooms. While we are doing all we can to prevent it, it is important that we leave nothing of value in the locker rooms.

2. Please take a look at the dual meet schedule - there have been several changes over the past few months and we want to make sure everyone is aware.

3. Congratulations to our Essex County High School swimmers, who placed in the top six in 20 out of 22 events at the Essex County Tournament at Seton Hall last Thursday.  While the number of  Dolphins involved prevents listing everyone who participated, or every result (and we hope we haven't missed any medalists), notable events included second-place finishes in both the men and woman's 200 medley relay, and the woman's 400 Free relay, with Kate and Maeve O'Leary, Brook Briody (medley) and Sara Rogers (Free) racing for Montclair, and Victor Hui, Andrew Jung, and Eefine Chang for Livingston;  a first place in the 200 Free relay with Paul and Jamie Ianiro and Jan Yburan swimming for Seton Hall Prep, the men's tournament winner; Sara Rogers' first-place finishes in the 200 and 500 Free, Kate O'Leary's first in the 100 Fly and 2nd in the 2 IM; Maeve O'Leary's first in the 100 Breast; Paul Ianiro's first in the 50 Free (with Junior Queiroz, Jan Yburan, and Dennis Hall-App all medaling in 4th, 5th and 6th place as well); 3rd, 4th, and 6th place finishes in the Men's 100 fly by Jamie Ianiro, Andrew Jung, and Paul Gurniak; Jackie Eckrote's second, and Victor Hui and Dennis Hall-App's 3rd and 4th, all in the 100 back; Paul Gurniak also medaled in the 500 free, and Eefine Chang and T.J. Mukherjee's medaling in 3rd and 6th place in the 2 IM.  Full results can be found at http://www.geocities.com/joeashp/2008meetresults.html.  Well done, Dolphins!

1. The snow reminded us to remind you that we try to run practices whenever possible - however occasionally the Y does close in which case we can not hold practice. Also occasionally we do have to cancel practices for snow even though the Y is open. Alqays call the Y to find out of we're open, check the website and your e-mail as we will always post cancellations before venturing out into a blizzard or a dangerous situation. Also always use your best judgement and  please do not take your life into your hands to get to practice or even a meet.

2. We should be holding all practices this weekend - use the guidelines above to be sure in the even of a big storm.

3. As far as large meets go such as holiday classic - the only way that meet will get cancelled is if Rutgers closes and they rarely do. Use the emergency number on the meet information to determine whether or not the meet is on.

4. We were asked to remind you to check your family files on the large pool balcony as there is an important document in them. If you do not have one, please e-mail Jon and he will make sure you get one soon.

            TIMING ASSIGNMENTS FOR BLUEFISH
Parents are expected to time at the Bluefish meet this weekend.  Please respond to requests for timers and also make sure to replace/relieve other MYM parents who responded before you.  Also, if your swimmer is swimming one of the last events of a session you should plan on timing the last part of the session so other parents do not have to time after their swimmer is done, if at all possible. Thank you.

1.                            MANDATORY PARENTS MEETING

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 24, 2007
7:15 IN THE Y GYM

There is a mandatory parents meeting for at least one parent of all non clinic swimmers  on Wednesday October 24, 2007.  At that meeting the coach(es) will give an overview of the upcoming season and rosters for DUAL meet placement will be provided. There will also be the sale of team merchandise, collection of swim meet fees, and other matters dealt with.

2. The parking deck issue is still a huge problem. A parent who picks his athlete up on the 2nd or 3rd deck suggests that it's usually empty up there and it is much easier for the swimmer leaving practice to find you. It's also a lot safer because people are not racing in and out of the deck.

 News 10/18.2

1. There will be a Sunday night practice on Sunday 10/21 from 7-830 for appropriate groups. There will also be clinic groups on Sunday - but no other practices on saturday 10/20 or sunday 10/21 will run.

2. A copy of the team e-mail send out on Friday which is pretty much a list of reminders is linked below. If you are not on the team e-mail list you need to e-mail jpsiegelnj@aol.com your name and that you want to be added as soon as possible.

3. We have a colorado timing system training on 11/7 at approximately 7:00 PM - all those interested in learning the system please show up. It seems very complicated, but if you vaguely understand windows and can use a stopwatch or a calculator you can handle it - for the Red Black Meet we had some team members run it and they learned it in a few minutes.

1. Dual Meet Schedule has been updated to include start times of some missing meets

2. If any volunteer can work concessions at the Red Black meet this weekend, please contact Meredith Bronson at Mjbronson@aol.com

3. NOTE! You can not "park" or "stand" in the active driveway of the parking deck when picking up your athletes. You can drop off and pick up there, but you can't wait there. In years past the Montclair Police have ticketed swim parents who do this, but this in not our primary concern. Our issue is that if people are blocking the driveway, it angers others which causes them to drive aggresssively in an area where our teams children are pouring out of the building - not a good idea. Find another place to wait for your kids.

4. Because of the Red Black meet this weekend we will not be able to hold practices between 1 and 4 on Saturday and from 10 to 1:30 this weekend. We will have Clinic on Sunday and the Seniors will have a practice on Saturday morning.

Also assuming time will allow for it we plan on having a short warm down after Saturday's session for all athletes who were in the meet and then on Sunday an abbreviated practice after the meet.

1. Linked below are some flyers for official courses for officials and those who would like to become one. Also there is a flyer from YMCA of the USA about the changes to the official program. Brief Description below:

Level I officials are now certified to act as stroke & Turn judges, in
addition to place judges, relay take-off judges, timers and scorer.

Level II officials are certified to act as referees, starters and chief
judges.  All existing Level II officials are grand-fathered so they
don't have to start all over as a Level I official.  However, recent
Level II officials who really only want to do stroke & turn may instead
attend a Level I clinic and be re-certified as a Level I official.

All new officials must attend Level I and work as a Level I certified
official for one year and eight sessions before they can take the Level
II clinic.  USA-S certified officials who meet the criteria for Level
II can go directly into that program if they desire.

2. High School aged athletes looking for gym exemption forms, please get Jon what you need as soon as possible so you can get the extra study ASAP.
