News 6/23 - 2
1. A note about ZONES - There has been some confusion as to who can swim at zones. Anyone who makes a meet cut can swim
that event at zones if they apply on time regardless of how many athletes that may be. In the event that two athletes
who have the cut do not apply then the top two athletes who apply for that event regardless of achieveing the qualify time
will earn that event. NJ Swimming is allowed to enter any athlete with the cut and if no one has the cut we are allowed two
entries per event.

1. Linked below is some LC Nats info and the warm-up posting for this weekend's Summer Solstice.
2. 40 Days until day 1 of YMCA LC Nationals
3. 11 Days until we begin our Summer schedule
4. We would like to extend a warm WELCOME to Lauren Sharkey!!!!! Her enthusiam will serve us well as she comes highly
reccommended.
5. On Tuesday June 28th BG and Jon are attending the NJ Jackals Minor League Baseball game at Yogi Berra Stadium
(Montclair State University). We are inviting any interested Dolphin Families and friends to join us for a day at the ballpark.
This is not a Montclair YMCA sponsored event as there will be no chaperones provided nor supervision by the swim team
or coaching staff and therefore is not a "drop off" event. It is simply an opportunity for swimmers and their familes to get
together in a social venue outside of the pool. If you choose to attend, parents please plan to stay and supervise your child
and enjoy the game. If it rains, we are moving the date to the following day, Wednesday June 29th.
6. There is practice this Saturday as per our regular schedule.
7. CONGRATULATIONS to Felicia Lee on being named TYR Age Group Swimmer of the Month in June's issue of Swimming World.
Additional congratulations are in order for Felicia being selected to go to the YMCA National Distance Training Camp at the
Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. Please join us in wishing her well on her trip - she leaves next week!!!!!!!!!!

WEDNESDAY JUNE 15TH
DURING THE 530-7 PM AND 7-9 PM PRACTICES
FIRST COME -FIRST SERVE BASIS
THE COST WILL BE $40
BECAUSE OF TIME RESTRAINTS WE WILL TRY TO VIDEO TAPE AS MANY SWIMMERS AS WE CAN PER

FOR THE CLUB....IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE STOP BY.... PARENTS WILL BE PERMITTED TO VIEW PRACTICE
AND WATCH A SAMPLE COPY OF WHAT THE FINISHED DVD WILL LOOK LIKE. IN
MY OPINION IT'S AWESOME AND WORTH THE INVESTMENT IN YOUR CHILDS SWIM FUTURE.
DUE TO THE SMALL NUMBERS OF KIDS IN THIS INITIAL SESSION, TURNAROUND
TIME ON THE DVDs TO EACH SWIMMER WILL BE VERY FAST; LIKELY WITHIN 2 OR 3 DAYS. THIS MEANS PARTICIPANTS WILL BE IMPROVING THEIR
STROKES IMMEDIATELY.

2. Linked Below is information for Summer Training. Please get fees in as soon as possible to guarantee your spot. If
you have any questions regarding fees please contact Faith Mazur, Team Payment Coordinator by calling the YMCA.
3. Meet Fee Accounts must be replensihed. If you are not sure where you are, please contact Chris Jung. We would reccommend
that you deposit into the account well in advance of Long Course Championship meet entries so we do not run into any account
freezes which may prevent athletes from being entered into meets.
4. All swimmers must have a current membership at the Y. You need your card to enter the building. This is a huge
saftey issue - The Y is really cracking down on making sure only those who belong in the buidling are grated access to it.
We need to do our part to make it easier on the Member Service Staff. Thank you for your help and cooperation.

2. All three meets (NJ Cup, Sizzle and Solstice) we are entered in have been closed for some time now. We can not add,
subtract or make changes to mistakes at this point.
3. There were many mistakes on the eligibility report for Summer Sizzle. Please check to see if you have been entered
in the events you asked for. In several cases in the initial meet file we recieved, there were mistakes and athletes who thought
they qualified based solely on that report did not in fact make the meet.
4. There was some confusion this past weekend regarding practices. We will not have Sunday practices this Spring or Summer
except where holidays fall and we might need them. Assume no Sunday practices at all until the Fall.

Individuals who are picking up their suit can also pick up their state athlete bracelets and spectator tickets at this
time instead of the other times posted.
News 3/4
1. The numbers issue regarding the NJYMCA State meet is a problem - While we are not 100% sure at this point, we may
have to scramble as we may be issued less then one spectator ticket per swimmer. Time will tell and carpooling might be necessary
to and from the meet. If you are traveling with another family and do not require a spectator ticket, please let BG and Jon
know. Officials who Ed Miller has on his list will not count as a spectator so if you are working, please let BG and I know.
We will keep you posted as to what the deal is as best we can, but the bottom line is the swim league's prority is to preserve
the meet as is without removing swimmers while satisfying the criteria of the fire inspectors and keeping them happy so we
can be assured of having a quality meet in a great venure this year and for years to come.
2. Look out for YMCA National and YWCA Jr Sr meetings in the next few weeks. We will post to the website as soon as we
have dates firmed up.
3. Last Call for JO's - We are not autoentering kids - you need to let us know you are going or we will not enter you
- drop dead date is Monday 3/7 - You must e-mail JON if you are not sure you are in.
4. Kids who are entered in more then 5 events at YWCA Jr Sr's must scratch down to 5 events by 3/20. Talk to your primary
coach to decide and let JON know by that date or the meet management will save your first 5 events and scratch the rest.
5. Meet entries for States, USA Silvers and YWCA Jr Sr's will be in your mailboxes by Monday - Check them for mistakes
as soon as they are in there.

us here at the Montclair YMCA. We will be running a Speedo sponsored Ultimate Technique Workshop for all athletes who are
in school grades 5th through 9th (bring your swim stuff). All other individuals on the team can be a part of the motivational
speech and can view the clinic from the balcony. After the water session all members of our team can be a part of a question
and answer period and can get autographs signed. All other swimmers (not in 5th through 9th grades) should bring their swim
stuff as well so if space allows they can participate in the in water activity. Timing TBA (approximately 10-4) - check back

Swim-A-Thon Results--Day I
December 13, 2004
The results are in for the first day of our Swim-A-Thon! A good time was had by all--Swimming
& Cheering on Teammates! Everyone took home a well-deserved special prize for participating in our Swim-A-Thon!
Now let's go out and get those pledges for our team and Special Olympics of Essex County.
We're looking forward to another exciting day today (Dec. 14th)! If your child/ren can't make
the practices on these days and would still like to participate, please do the following:
- When they do get to practice, they must inform the lead coach that they are swimming for the Swim-A-Thon.
- They must count their laps swum.
- Let Gail Bassolino know how many laps they have swum so that they can be put on the results list.
We're looking for 100% participation!
For parents--Once your swimmers have completed their swim, they can collect the pledges.
The pledge money (CHECKS ONLY PLEASE) can be put in the "Swim-A-Thon" folder located in the file cabinet
on the balcony. You can either write one check (made out to Montclair YMCA) for the cash collected or call/e-mail Gail
Bassolino to make other arrangements. DO NOT put cash in the folder since it would be a shame
if it disappeared. Pledge money is due by January 5, 2005.
Our goal is $12,000.00! I know we can do it!
If you have any questions, please contact Gail Bassolino at cbassolino@aol.com or (973) 831-8647.
Thanks,
Gail Bassolino, Swim-A-Thon Chairperson

I. NOTES ABOUT MEET ETIQUETTE: These were a few things I encountered
during our first meets, so here are a few things for kids and parents: 1. Quiet for the start, meaning when the whistle
blows and until the sound buttons goes off it should remain quiet. The kids could not understand my calls during the
meets. 2. No touching the race course during any race with caps or goggles, this is grounds for a DQ. 3.Stay in the
water till end of race accept during a relay, which get out of the water immediately and stay off the pads or the Colorado
will trigger the next racer as finished. 4.Hold still on block when Take your mark is called, fixing of goggles or pulling
back could be a charge of false start. 5.In the back stroke your toes at the start must be under the water esp not up on
the gutter. 6.Do not walk in front of the scoring table during the start or finish.
Thanks for the cooperation, Maryann Cornett, Head Official of the Montclair Dolphins
Jon
and Brian add - Please get to the warm-up on time so we don't take you out of the meet and stay till the end if for no other
reason then to do a cheer for the other team. Sometimes we do need to add kids in relays at the last minute so the other three
can swim.
II. NOTES FOR OFFICIALS- Anyone completing an officials course should
e-mail me and let me know, also place a copy in my file file folder of their certificate for the Y National Audit we are required
to have this since the last Audit we were sited for this problem. If they finished a course and I am unaware they will
not receive the book or constitution from the Lead Instructor Ed Miller. He is also demanding a full list with expiration
dates of our team Officials. Please cooperate in this matter. Thanks, Maryann Cornett- Head Official - Montclair Dolphins-

First Change: We had to take out the 1000 Free from Saturday
in order to keep the timeline down. We are going to hold the 1000 free on Friday evening. I realize that most
of you will not be able to travel for that, but that was our only option. If you want to swim the 1000 on Friday please
contact me.
Second Change: We had to split Saturday into two sessions. This wasn't too much for the timeline
but for the number of people we can host in our building. The first session warm up will be at 1:00 PM with a 2:00 PM
start. The second session arm up will be at 5:00 PM with a 6:00 PM start (ending approx 9:00 PM). The Saturday
sessions have been broken up the same way we have them broken up on Sunday with 11/12 boys, 11/12 girls and 13/14 boys in
the first session and 13/14 girls, 15/over boys, and 15 over girls in the second session.
Third Change: The Medley
Relay on Saturday will be in the beginning of the second session.
We are running this meet in 10 lanes so your help
in timing and officiating is needed. We ask that each team supply two timers and one official per session. Please
contact me to let me know who your officials are. Officials will not have to pay admission.
Thank You and I look
forward to seeing you next weekend.

If you have one child on the team, the donation is $10.00; two children, the donation is $20.00; three or more children,

Fanous and the other seniors for helping the younger bowlers. Special Recognition goes to Kelsey (Gobble Gobble) Milligan
for bowling three strikes in a row which to bowlers would be known as a Turkey.

to provide rapid and important communication with you. It will also give an assessment of how many people are checking
this web-page.
Starting now and throughout the year you may send non-coaching questions to mymparents@yahoo.com and a Board member will answer them for you. The other Board members and I are eager to support you in supporting
